// Module 01

The Basics

Our first module will introduce you to basic device hardware, gestures,and settings. We will start from the hardware that comprises your device. These are the buttons and physical things that you will be able to interact with while using your device. Some of these buttons have very important functions like power, sleep, and volume. Next we will move onto how you can interact with your device in multiple ways, which most people refer to as gestures. You will be pros at gestures by the end of this program! Lastly, we will go onto some very important settings that support the basic functioning of your device. Each of these sections will contribute to a solid foundation of knowledge of your device that we will be building upon moving forward!

// Module 02

Safety and Security

Our second module will introduce you to your device’s safety and security features. We would like you to feel as comfortable as possible moving forward, so we thought it’d be best to start with some more settings for safety and security. These settings include various submenus that deal with security features like your fingerprint identification, facial recognition, passwords, and finding your device. Next we will move onto some general information about protecting yourself online. The world wide web can be a great place, but it can also be dangerous. We want to offer you some advice on how to navigate the internet in a safe and secure manner. Hopefully these tips and tricks will leave you feeling secure about using your device.

// Module 03

Default Applications

In this module you will start to explore the many different applications associated with your device. To start, you will begin by exploring the applications that are already on most devices. These applications usually do not need to be downloaded. Instead, they come with the device! We will go through many different applications in this workshop – from using your email to taking videos with your camera. These diverse applications will help you explore your options of what you would like to do with your device.

// Module 04

Entertainment Applications

Time for some fun! This module is all about the applications that you can use to entertain yourself or enjoy with friends. The first few applications that we introduce in this module relate to music and video. We offer many different applications for each type, as we want you to be able to choose which one you like the most. Next, we delve into some audio/video calling applications to connect you with friends. We go on to tell you about some useful travel applications. Then we finish off with some games!

// Module 05

Social Media

In this module we will be discussing different social media applications. First we’ll go through in-depth one of the biggest social media applications today, Facebook! After that we will go through a social media that focuses on quick news, Twitter. Lastly, we will finish up with three different types of social media that largely rely on pictures and videos: Instagram, Snapchat, and Pinterest. Each of these social medias offers a different way of interacting with friends and family. We encourage you to try each one out and decide which one you enjoy most!

Commerce Applications

The world of banking and commerce is constantly changing. Today there are so many different ways to get all of your banking and shopping done without ever having to leave the comfort of your home. In this module, we will go over some useful features of online banking, different ways to pay for items in store, and some of the popular commerce applications. Each of these topics are instructions on how to make your life a bit easier. Don’t like running to the bank on those harsh winter days? Stay inside and use one of these great applications!

The Cloud

Our last module focuses in on cloud computing. Most people just refer to this topic as the cloud. You might already be using some features of cloud computing if you have followed all of the instructions from the previous modules! The cloud is an interesting look at where the future of technology might be headed and is a useful way that most people use to free up space on their device.

Workshops

We hold various workshops throughout the Northeastern Ontario catchment area of NEOnet Inc. These workshops include designated topics and a question and answer period. These workshops are scheduled at various libraries, residences, and community partner locations. We are pleased to offer one-on-one sessions with any older adult, per request.
